A short loop through the mossy forest is a great alternative walk to get to the Q Cove Plaza and services.

Or spend the morning on a longer loop looking for masks that have been carved into several trees and enjoying the forest, birds, and plant life.

Nearby:

Haskins Farm/Fir Crest Trail is a 1-2 hour loop with an option for a beach walk.
Kate Dubois Trail offers ocean views from a sheltered forest trail which is an hour out and back at the southern end of Quadra Pass.
The Community Centre Trails are walkable from our B&B and include some huge trees and a variety of loops and distances.

Further away:

Shellalligan Pass Trail is a 20 minute drive to the north and is a nice 2 hour hike along the ocean with views of the coast mountains and islands east of Quadra.
Heriot Ridge Trail is only a 15 minute drive and is a 2 to 3 hour hike. The trail goes through an old growth stand of Douglas fir called the Three Sisters.
Or walk in our neighbourhood, through the nearby forest looking for the carved masks and the giant cottonwood tree, then along the roads for a café stop and some boat watching in the harbour.
There are beach walks all around the island and one of the most popular destinations is Rebecca Spit, a 10 minute drive from In The Hood.

Explore Quadra by bike, whether it is pedal power or e-bike.
Bike rentals are available at Smokey’s Bike Shop or Island Cycle.
If you arrive at In The Hood on your bike, there will be a discount on the room rate. (We are trying to reduce vehicle traffic on the very busy ferry!)

Trails:

There are several mountain bike trails on the north end of the island but there are road and trail options close to our B&B.
There is a very nice off-road trail to the South End Farm Winery and a short off-road option to the lighthouse that could include the Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre at Cape Mudge. These rides can be combined with the low traffic routes on the south end of the island.
A popular day trip, especially for e-bikers is to cycle to Heriot Bay and then catch the Cortes ferry and spend a few hours exploring Cortes Island.

Kayak rentals are available at Wildcoast which is a short walk from In The Hood.
Kayaks can be rented by the hour, ½ day or full day at Quadra Island Kayaks in Heriot Bay. They offer free pickups at the ferry.

There are many artists on Quadra and a few studios are an easy walk from In The Hood.
Earthlight Pottery – Hanna Lewandowski – on Plaza Road is ‘in the hood’, just a few steps up the road. Hanna’s studio is open for the Quadra Island Studio tour and at other times.
Eagle’s Rest Studio – Nick Knuit – antler carvings – located on Noble Road. It is a ½ hour leisurely walk through the forest from Plaza Road to Noble Road. Or ride Green Road to Noble Road.

The Southend Farm Winery & Clearcut Distilling Co is another great destination for a tasting, a picnic, or to buy their Quadra grown elixirs.

If you want to venture further north on Quadra Island, there is a lot of exploring to do by car, bike, kayak or on foot.
Heriot Ridge, Nugedzi, Chinese Mountain and Mt Seymour trails are a few of the popular hikes along Hyacinth Bay Rd and Granite Bay Road. There is a network of mountain bike trails at Morte Lake, just north of the Walcan Road.
Main Lake Provincial Park provides some good canoeing, kayaking, camping and fishing on a chain of freshwater lakes.
The whole northeast coastline is excellent for multi-day kayak trips. Octopus Islands and Surge Narrows Marine Parks are popular destinations for overnight and multi-day trips. Ask us about the local outfitters.

Walk or cycle in a few minutes from In The Hood to the ferry terminal and then walk or ride off in Campbell River.
The Rotary Seawalk is a 6km paved trail that follows the shoreline to the south. It is 13km return to Willow Point. There is an option to the north as well, that leads to Tyee Spit and is 6km return.
There are great views of the Coast Mountains, Quadra Island, fishing boats and harbours.
There is excellent birdwatching for shorebirds, eagles, and many types of waterfowl.
The Campbell River Museum and Maritime Heritage Centre are within 2km of the ferry terminal.
There are many eating spots on Shopper’s Row and along the Seawalk, all within a short walking distance.
For a longer ride, add on the Greenways Loop from Willow Point back to the ferry terminal along the ERT. It is mostly off-road and goes through the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands.
There are many other activities available that are accessible by bike or car. Elk Falls Suspension Bridge and Strathcona Provincial Park are two great destinations.

There are several whale and bear watching tours and fishing excursions offered along the Campbell River waterfront. Pickups can be arranged at the Quathiaski Cove harbour.
Quadra Island Boat Tours offers 4 hour tours of Quadra Island, Cortes Island and Desolation Sound. Visit remote beaches and waterfalls, go birdwatching or sports fishing, or catch and eat prawns! They are based in Heriot Bay.
Dion’s Guided Salmon Fishing offers 5 and 8 hour sports fishing adventures with pick up on Quadra or in Campbell River.
